Benedict to Have Cordial Meeting With Slanderer of Christianity

This hater of Christendom teaches religion at Mount Saint Mary College in NY.

Prior to Vatican II (the Second Vatican Council), the Catholic Church was actually teaching anti-semitic ideas that laid the groundwork for the Holocaust," [Rabbi] Polish said.

Rabbi will join Vatican sojourn

By Greg Marano • Poughkeepsie Journal • October 26, 2008

LAGRANGEVILLE - In his lifetime, Rabbi Daniel Polish has seen the Jewish and Catholic faiths heal some old rifts.

This week, he'll be in Vatican City helping continue that work.

Polish, 66, rabbi at Congregation Shir Chadash in the Town of LaGrange, will be among a small group of rabbis meeting with Pope Benedict XVI to discuss relations between the two religions.

"This is, I think, a very sensitive moment in Catholic-Jewish relations," Polish said. "There is this tension that we need to talk with one another about."

Polish will be traveling on the pope's invitation as a member of the Jewish Committee on Interreligious Consultations.

He said he looks forward to talking to the pope about issues such as the beatification of Pope Pius XII, who served during World War II and who critics say could have done more to fight the Holocaust.

He also wants to discuss the pope's 2007 reinstitution of the Latin Good Friday liturgy that includes a prayer for Jewish conversion, which has not been given since the Second Vatican Council of the 1960s.

"Here's a prayer that is understood to be for the conversion of the Jews, that had been removed from the Mass," Polish said. "He's reincluded this prayer, which is offensive to the religious sensibilities of the Jews" ...

"Prior to Vatican II (the Second Vatican Council), the Catholic Church was actually teaching anti-semitic ideas that laid the groundwork for the Holocaust," Polish said. "Now the church has repudiated those ideas. That's a profound change; that's a very dramatic change."

"The religious relations between the Jewish community and the Catholic community since Vatican II have been very cordial."

He is scheduled to leave on Tuesday and return on Friday, and said he hopes this mission will further heal the remaining rifts between the two faiths.

One issue he does not hope to discuss is relations between Vatican City and Israel; that's a diplomatic issue, he said, and he wants to focus on the religious ones.

Polish teaches Hebrew scriptures and world religion at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, and says this fact alone is evidence of how far relations between the Catholic and Jewish religions have come.

"Until Vatican II, you would never have a rabbi teaching at a Catholic institution," he said. "You certainly wouldn't have him teaching a religious subject."

Robert Sungenis Writes ...

Robert Sungenis has written a response to my comments on Benedict XVI's recent Talmud reference in the following two blog postings:

Benedict Cites Talmud Approvingly, Suggests Jesus Acted in Accordance with it

Pope's Diabolical Revolution in Catholic/Jewish Relations

Robert Sungenis' response is here:

Robert Sungenis apparently believes that Benedict XVI was evangelizing a group of rabbis, European "Jewish" Congress members, and other Judaic power-brokers in his September 12, 2008 address to the "Jewish" community at Paris, France. I find this a strange conclusion to draw. These rabbis and EJC characters are so acutely sensitive and hysterically averse to true Christian evangelization of "Jews" that if Benedict actually was attempting to evangelize them it would certainly be detected and would not be tolerated for a second. These people can't even allow the minuscule traditional Catholic minority to pray for them in virtual seclusion on one day of the year.

If Sungenis wants others to believe as he does--that Benedict is evangelizing rabbis and their followers in the same spirit as Jesus Christ and St. Paul--he should offer some evidence that this is so. I haven't seen any. I have, in fact, amassed a mountain of evidence that the contrary is true--that not only is Benedict affirming the errors of the anti-Christ religion of Orthodox Judaism, he's also introducing these errors into the Christian fold; building deep relations between Catholics and "Jews."

But this is besides Benedict's sly misrepresentation of a Talmud passage which Sungenis apparently takes at face value. Sungenis writes:

"... the pope was quite correct in using the Talmud in his discussion with the Jews in France, for what he proposed to them from their own book about the Sabbath was precisely the same argument that Jesus used against the Pharisees. If, in some sections of the Talmud, it can be shown that the statements therein agree with godly principles and Christian truth, it is certainly appropriate to quote them to the people who believe they are authoritative, for you show them that even their own authority agrees with you."

This is a trap into which many investigators of rabbinic texts fall which is dismantled in Judaism Discovered. Benedict has presented only one side of a dialectical argument which does not represent the halachic synthesis. The Talmud passage that Benedict quoted is not authoritative as Sungenis assumes. The rabbis that Benedict addressed know this. Benedict himself cannot be unaware of it. The rabbis--from the time of Christ till the present day--run a Sabbath law tyranny that is as far from Jesus' Gospel teaching as black is from white. This is so patent that I can't believe it needs an explanation. Jesus and the Pharisees were conflicted on the man-made (NOT biblical) pharisaic Sabbath laws because their teachings were completely opposed. Rabbi-contrived Sabbath laws have only become more tyrannical since the time of Christ and they are authoritative.

No, Benedict was not evangelizing those rabbis. He was, as usual, creating confusion in the minds of his own followers by asserting a commonality which does not exist.

Time Magazine Puffs Talmudic Business "Ethics"

Skull and Bones Henry Luce founded Time magazine takes its duplicity to new lows with some timely puff-journalism for talmudic business "ethics." Even now we're led to believe that the Talmud lights the way out of the pit it has led us into.

The Financial Crisis: What Would the Talmud Do? By David Van Biema, Time, Friday, Oct. 10, 2008

This would have been readily detected as fraud by any moderately informed person until fairly recently. Not so in the days when the pope invites the rabbis to teach the Bible to us calling them "brothers in the faith." Could it hurt much worse to also make them the arbiters of business ethics? They're so holy, wise and benevolent--so the bishops say--that only a "'Jew' hater" would ask questions or point out the chasm between Time's Orwellian prose and the realities of talmudic business "ethics" teaching, not to mention actual Orthodox Judaic business practices, of which Rubashkin makes a perfect example.

Being that the U.S. is now trillions of dollars in debt to bankers I searched Time's article to see what it had to say about the rabbinic "Prozbul" and found nothing. The "Prozbul" is the legal fiction concocted by Hillel the Pharisee which reassures bankers that Deuteronomy 15 can not be invoked by those in debt to them. In a turn of duplicity which must be seen as the model for the same exhibited by Time magazine, Talmud states: "Hillel established the prozbul in order to repair the world" (Mishnah Gittin 4;3). In other words, the world has been "repaired" (tikkun olam) by the "liberal," "benevolent" Pharisee Hillel (often compared to Jesus Christ!?!) through his reassurance of bankers that the Bible can not interfere with them burying people in massive amounts of debt over the course of their entire lifetimes.

If you buy the diabolical lie that Hillel was a benevolent Pharisee and similar to Jesus Christ who drove the moneychangers out of the Temple with a whip and said that the Pharisees bind the people with heavy burdens, then why not consult a rabbi for talmudic advice on how to get out of the present debt catastrophe as Time magazine recommends?

The Theological Impetus For Postville Cruelty

Ronald C. Kiener has written a piece on the raid of the Rubashkin kosher meat packing plant in Postville, Iowa which gets to the theological heart of the matter:

... The revulsion that non-Orthodox Jews in the Upper Midwest have for the Hasidim of Postville is visceral and undeniable. Over and over, while talking to non-Orthodox Jews in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area—arguably the Jewish community outside of Postville that has the most at stake in this story—I have heard one constant refrain. “How could this have happened?” they ask rhetorically. “I’ll tell you…,” and then their voices drop a register: “These Hasidim do not think their workers are human beings.”

What these Jews are saying is probably the deepest and darkest secret of the entire story.

This is a tale of Hasidic Jews who are utterly at odds with what most Americans understand as modernity. They learn from their most sacred text, the Tanya (published in 1797 by the founder of Chabad Hasidism, Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi) that “the souls of the nations of the world, the idol worshippers, derive from unclean husks and have no goodness in them whatsoever.”

This xenophobic teaching, an intolerant note hiding within the otherwise fetching melody of Chabad Hasidism, is spun differently for different audiences. But it indicates what can happen when business proprietors armed with a chauvinistic mystical theology that denies the humanity of non-Jews face off against the “laws of the land.” Such behavior might pass unnoticed in the cloistered brownstone neighborhoods of Crown Heights, but in the open light of the prairies, there will be an inevitable clash of civilizations.

Agriprocessors, a multimillion-dollar food manufacturer, defied the rule of state and federal law to wreak havoc on a group of workers and a town they cared nothing about. It provided the niche consumer with a needed product and along the way made a tarnished and now vulnerable fortune. (Ronald C. Kiener, RELIGION IN THE NEWS, Fall 2008)

Ronald Kiener is making light of the matter however. The teaching referenced does not apply only to idol worshipers but to all gentiles. And this is not a just a matter of mysticism. The racist teachings of the Tanya and many other texts of Orthodox Judaism are entirely practical as evidenced in the behavior of the followers of Orthodox Judaism everywhere from the Postville plant to the "settlements" on Palestinian land. And racism is only one of many problems with Orthodox Judaism which are not circumscribed to Chabad Hasidism or Chasidism in general for that matter.

The racist Tanya and other Kabbalistic texts of genocidal racism are enjoying a revival in reform synagogues as documented here:

Reform Congregation Nostalgic for Genocidal Racist Texts

Pope Benedict's synod rabbi, Rabbi She'ar-Yashuv Cohen, upholds these texts of genocidal racism as divine writ. He speaks fondly of the Tanya here:

Pope Benedict's Synod rabbi: Friend of Chabad

Like Yin and Yang

Pope Benedict's Synod rabbi, Rabbi She'ar-Yashuv Cohen waxes nostalgic during a Chabad interview in which he relays a legend which has the Chabad "Rebbe" Menachem Schneerson hiding in his grandparents' basement for seven months during which time "The Rebbe" taught his grandfather "a little bit" from the racial-supremacist Tanya. Rabbi She'ar-Yashuv Cohen tells of the special attention he later received from "The Rebbe" during his many visits to Chabad headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, New York. The interview is at this link:

It might seem outrageous for the "first rabbi invited to address a synod of bishops" to close his address with a guilt trip vis. Pius XII "not doing enough to save 'the Jews' during WWII" and a warning for the bishops to "prevent Iran from causing another Holocaust" while he himself was involved in the terrorist ethnic cleansing of Palestine and continues to be a teacher of genocidal racial-supremacist Judaism, but it's really par for the course. This is the fruit of the "Judeo-Christian relations" racket which is in itself outrageous.

Here are a few teachings from the text of racial-supremacist pantheism, the Tanya which Rabbi She'ar-Yashuv Cohen fondly recalls that the Chabad "Rebbe" taught to his grandfather:

"... the explanation of the matter, [is to be found] in light of what Rabbi Chayim Vital wrote in Shaar HaKedushah (and in Etz Chayim, Portal 5, ch. 2) — that every Jew, whether righteous or wicked, possesses two souls, as it is written, “And neshamot (souls) which I have made. ... The second, uniquely Jewish, soul is truly “a part of G-d above,”

"The souls of the nations of the world (the Gentiles), however, emanate from the other, unclean kelipot* which contain no good whatever, as is written in Etz Chayim, Portal 40, ch. 3, that all the good that (Gentiles) do, is done out of selfish motives. So the Gemara comments on the verse, “The kindness of (Gentiles) is sin” — that all the charity and kindness done by (Gentiles) of the world is only for their self-glorification..." (Chapters 1 and 2)

"The lower category consists of three completely unclean and evil kelipot, containing no good whatever... From them flow and are derived the souls of all the nations of the world (Gentiles), and the sustaining force of their bodies. Also derived from these kelipot are the souls of all living creatures that are unclean and forbidden to be eaten, and the sustaining force of their bodies." (Chapter 6)

*"Kelipot" are demonic shells from the "Sitra Achra" (side of uncleanness) in the Lurianic Kabbalistic system. "Kelipot" are completely evil, devoid of any goodness whatever. According to this system, "Jews" emanate from the "Sitra d'Kedusha" (side of holiness).

There is no effort from the pope or any bishop or priest that I am aware of to encourage rabbinic reform of base, tribal hatred such as this which in truth is so fundamental to rabbinic texts and tradition that genuine reform is no more possible than reformation of Nazism.

More on the Synod Rabbi

Rabbi She'ar-Yashuv Cohen, the rabbi selected by Benedict XVI to address a synod of more than 250 bishops, learned violent Zionist Messianic Judaism from Avraham Yitzhak Kook and his son Zvi Yehudah Kook shown here.

Rabbi She'ar-Yashuv Cohen, who Benedict XVI has invited to address the synod of bishops this week, is a protégé of the Messianic Zionist Rabbi Avraham Yitzhak Kook. Rabbi Kook can be credited with formulating the religious rationalization for the "return" of "the Jews" to "Israel" without the arrival of "the Mosiach" occuring beforehand. He taught that "the Jews" themselves bring about "the redemption" through Zionism. This teaching harmonizes with such anti-biblical concepts as "forcing God's hand" and "as above so below." This pantheist pagan view is illustrated in Kook's statement regarding the Zionist state which he said is: "The foundation of God's Throne in the world, whose entire desire is that God shall be One and His Name shall be One." Kook wrote, "Nothing in our faith, either in its larger principles or in its details, negates the idea that we can begin to shake off the dust of exile by our own efforts, through natural, historical processes ... that we have a sacred duty to try to do so by whatever means are at our disposal."

In the mind of Rabbi She'ar-Yashuv Cohen's mentor Rav Kook, Zionism is the vehicle through which the apocalyptic rabbinic "redemption" should be humanly created by whatever means possible.

Rav Kook looked forward to the final annihilation of all other nations and cultures and the exultation of "Israel" in the Zionist "messianic" age:

The sin of the murderers, wicked kings of the earth and all the evildoers of the land has been completed. The earth cannot achieve atonement for the blood spilt upon it except through the blood of the one who shed it. The atonement must come: a general elimination of all the present-day cultural machines, with all their falsehood and trickery, with all their awful filth and venom. This entire culture, which exalts itself with instruments of falsehood, must, by necessity, be annihilated from the world, and in its place will emerge a kingdom of the sacred and exalted. The light of Israel will appear, to establish the world with peoples of a new spirit. (Orot Ha-Milchama)

Rav Kook founded the first Zionist yeshiva in Palestine which Rabbi She'ar-Yashuv Cohen was trained at, the Mercaz HaRav. This yeshiva is known for its role in the formation of the ultra-racist, terrorist so-called "settler movement:"

The foundations for the religious settlements in the West Bank were forged in Mercaz Harav, whose student Hanan Porat set out to restore the Jewish settlement in Gush Etzion immediately after the Six-Day War. The founders of Gush Emunim, a religious political movement that encouraged Jewish settlement of land they believe God promised the Jews, came from Mercaz Harav after the Yom Kippur War.

Rabbi Kook encouraged his students to go out and fight for the settlements in the West Bank. He himself took active part in these struggles. (Mercaz Harav - the flagship of national-religious yeshivas," Haaretz, 07/03/2008)

Rabbi Kook was also unique in that his yeshiva encouraged military service. Rabbi She'ar-Yashuv Cohen apparently took this teaching to heart as he has a long history of militant activity in service of the terrorist Zionist state of counterfeit Israel. Rabbi She'ar-Yashuv Cohen was associated with the terrorist Irgun gang HERE. He is the pioneer of the Yeshivat Hesder (arrangement) which is to say, the terrifying combination of advanced yeshiva training in Talmudic racial supremacy with armed "defense."

Rabbi She'ar-Yashuv Cohen here recalls his and Tzvi Yehuda Kook's participation in the 1967 land grab:

Rabbi She'ar-Yashuv Cohen, Chief Rabbi of Haifa: "I was the last Jew to leave the Old City - wounded, on a stretcher, to Jordanian captivity. In 1967, when the war broke out, I requested of Gen. Rafael Vardi that if Jerusalem is re-conquered, I would like to be the first citizen to return to it. As soon as they conquered the city, Gen. Vardi sent a jeep to the City Hall where I was at the time, and it brought me to the Old City. On the radio in the jeep I heard the recording of Motta Gur saying 'The Temple Mount is in our hands!', and then we entered the Old City, where I met my father-and-teacher the Nazir [Rabbi David Cohen] and my teacher Rabbi Tzvi Yehuda HaKohen Kook, who had entered a few minutes before me." ("Remembering the Reunification of Jerusalem," Arutz Sheva, 06/06/05)

Rabbi Cohen is currently active in wacko Temple Mount initiatives and has recently stated that the ban on "Jews" ascending the Temple Mount no longer applies:

Haifa's long-time Chief Rabbi She'ar-Yashuv Cohen, who has taken part in many interfaith conferences and gatherings with Moslem religious leaders, says he's trying to gather support for a synagogue on the Temple Mount. ("Support Sought for Temple Mount Synagogue," Hillel Fendel, Arutz Sheva, 12/11/07)

Rabbi Shar Yashuv Cohen, chief rabbi of Haifa and a member of the Chief Rabbinate Rabbinical Council said the ban on Jews and other non-Muslims ascending the Temple Mount no longer exists although the Chief Rabbinate has yet to officially "endorse" such visits. ("Jews urged to emphasize Temple Mount," World Net Daily, January 28 2004)

There is much more that could be and indeed should be said about this man whom Benedict XVI has invited to address the synod of bishops this week.

Has Your Newspaper Put a Hate DVD On Your Front Porch?

While scholarly analysis of rabbinic Judaism is cast to the fringe by the establishment in the West, the same establishment facilitates unrelenting propaganda, ridicule and hatred against Christianity and Islam. Always the double standard.

Has Your Newspaper Put a Hate DVD On Your Front Porch?

This DVD was financed by the Jerusalem-based organization "Aish haTorah" (see:Aish HaTalmud), was produced by a Rabbi Raphael Shore and is being distributed in massive quantities in swing states throughout the U.S. during an election year in a transparent attempt to influence already rabidly pro-"Israel" and anti-Arab U.S. politics to become even more so.

Watch the following video from 4:00 onward:

Priest, Rabbi trace Progress of "Judeo-Christian" Fraud

Priest, Rabbi trace Jewish-Christian relations' progress

By Kathleen Ogle - The Catholic Spirit

October 2, 2008

NEW BRUNSWICK - A Catholic priest and a Jewish rabbi, both deeply engaged in the promotion of Jewish-Christian dialogue, discussed the transformation in relations between the two faith traditions and identified areas where additional progress is necessary Sept. 21 at the Douglas Campus Center.

The program was sponsored by the Allen and Joan Bildner Center for the Study of Jewish Life in cooperation with the Diocese of Metuchen. Yael Zerubavel, director of the Bildner Center, served as moderator.

Characterizing the transformation of relations between the two faiths as one of the most remarkable and dramatic events of the 20th century, Father John Pawlikowski, director of Catholic-Jewish studies at the University of Chicago, and Rabbi Eugene Korn, scholar of Jewish ethics and Jewish-Christian relations, summarized the development of Jewish-Christian relations from their different perspectives.

Both agreed that if Jews and Christians could achieve reconciliation and peace then peace is possible between any two people.

“It is really a great source of hope for all of us that if a formerly antagonistic relationship can be transformed then other antagonistic relationships … can also be transformed and that we can move from a situation of human enmity to a situation of human solidarity and human cooperation,” Father Pawlikowski said.

Father Pawlikowski discussed various documents that addressed Jewish-Catholic relations beginning with the Second Vatican Council’s Nostra Aetate (Declaration on the Relation of the Church to Non-Christian Religions) and continuing through the work of Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI.

He cited the support of the American bishops for Nostra Aetate, claiming that the document would “never have seen the light of day if it were not for the very strong and almost universal support given it by the American episcopal delegation at Vatican II.”

He said the bishops’ support was rooted in the work of the National Catholic Welfare Conference in the 1930s and 40s which brought several Jewish and Christian organizations together to collaborate in the advancement of the working class.

The American bishops were also influenced by a study of religious textbooks, which “showed that it was impossible for Catholic Christianity or any form of Christianity to express its own self-identity without reference to Jews and Judaism.”

Although there was opposition to Nostra Aetate from some Catholic conservatives as well as bishops in Arab countries, Popes John XXIII and Paul VI were committed to seeing the document through the council, Father Pawlikowski said.

The most important statement in the document, the priest said, was that Jews could not be held collectively responsible for the death of Christ.

“In removing that theocide charge, it really removed all the layers of theological understanding of the Christian-Jewish relationship that had permeated Christianity for centuries,” he said, including the idea that Jews had been expelled from a covenantal relationship because of theocide and that Jews were to be perpetually homeless people wandering the earth, never to have a state of their own, as punishment for rejecting Christ.

The council also said that Jews remained a part of the covenantal tradition, and emphasized Jesus’ identity as a Jew and his positive relationship with Judaism.

“Those three pillars established by the council have continued to be the basic pillars on which the church, scholars, educators have built a deeper understanding of the Christian/Catholic-Jewish relationship,” Father Pawlikowski said.

Referring to recent biblical scholarship which has concluded that the process of separation between Jews and Christians was longer and more complex than initially thought, Father Pawlikowski said, “our whole picture of the first few centuries of the Jewish-Christian relationship is undergoing profound transformation.”

To help attendees understand the depth of the transformation in the relationship between Jews and Christians, Rabbi Korn recalled examples from the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century in which Vatican publications and popes refused to support the Jewish return to Zion.

He contrasted those examples with Pope John Paul II’s visit to Israel when he met with the Jewish state’s president and chief rabbis and prayed at the Western Wall “for the welfare of the Jewish people as his elder brothers who remain the people of God’s covenant.”

He went on to discuss how three events in particular contributed to the transformation: the Holocaust, the establishment of the state of Israel, and the Second Vatican Council’s proclamation, Nostra Aetate.

While the Holocaust and Nazism were not a Christian doctrine, ideology or movement, they took place in the “heart of Christian Europe,” Rabbi Korn said.

“One can’t say with any integrity that Hitler, or Goebbels or Eichmann were in any way Christians in the religious sense, in the doctrinal sense. But the people who ran the crematory at Aushwitz were Christians, who went to Mass, who were schooled in Christian theology and whose attitudes toward Jews were shaped by Christian teachings,” he continued.

The traditional Christian teaching about Jews, which later came to be known as supercessionalism, held that Christianity had replaced Judaism, that the church was the new Israel that was in covenant with God and that Judaism or the Old Testament was no longer valid, the rabbi explained.

An entire tradition of church literature not only rejected Judaism but demonized Jews and led to persecution of Jews and anti-Semitism, Rabbi Korn said.

He cited theologians who said that such literature was significant in the ready acceptance of Christian Europe to extermination of the Jewish people.

“Christian theology was not sufficient condition for the final solution but it may have been a necessary component to Nazism,” he said.

As the Christian world reflected on the unimaginable evil of the Holocaust, the seed was planted for the Christian reappraisal of the history and its theology of the Jews, he said.

“Something in the Christian world had gone undeniably wrong and Christian thinkers recoiled from what had been wrought,” Rabbi Korn said. “Over the past 40 years this process of reassessment has spawned a discussion that is no less remarkable for its content than its form.”

He referred to Catholic theologian Sister Mary Boise who dubbed the transformation in contemporary Christian thinking regarding Jews and Judaism as the 6 Rs: repudiation of anti-Semitism, rejection of the charge of theocide, repentance after the Shoah, recognition of Israel, review of teaching about Jews and Judaism and rethinking about proselytizing Jews.

The establishment of state of Israel in 1948 not only gave the Jewish people hope for survival after the Holocaust but “it changed the image of status of the Jew in the world,” he said.

“The establishment of statehood I believe helped level the playing field between Jews and the rest of the world including the Vatican.”

Rabbi Korn said the Vatican, which is both the head of the Catholic Church and a city-state as well, understands that that which is political has spiritual implications for the status and recognition of the Catholic Church.

“Similarly statehood for the Jews transformed the way the world began to look at Jews. No longer vulnerable but powerful, having the right of self defense, having some clout both politically and militarily and need to be taken seriously,” he said.

Further, Rabbi Korn said that Jewish statehood constituted the Jewish return to the land of the covenant that was promised in the Bible, which reinforced the notion that the covenant between Abraham and his descendents on one hand and God on the other hand was still alive. This was the basis for the Christian covenant and the basis for the Jewish covenant.

Rabbi Korn said the Vatican’s proclamation Nostra Aetate “proved to be a point of departure for the Christian journey from which there will be no return.”

Pope's Diabolical Revolution in Catholic/Jewish Relations

There is nothing subtle about the "vicar of Christ" rehabilitating an eternally condemned, anti-Christ text. The Israeli priest below claims that Benedict quoted a Talmud teaching "which resonates deeply with the teaching of Jesus." This foul lie is refuted here:

Benedict Cites Talmud Approvingly, Suggests Jesus Acted in Accordance with it

The Talmud should not be burned or censored. It should be painstakingly, accurately translated and made readily available to scholars everywhere for the same level of critical analysis that all other religious texts are subjected to. The fraud documented here could only be put over on the completely ignorant.

Pope's 'Subtle Revolution' in Catholic/Jewish Relations

Zenit News Agency

Israeli Priest Comments on Pope Benedict's Address to Jewish Leaders in Paris, France.

JERUSALEM (Zenit) - Benedict XVI worked a "subtle revolution" with regard to relations with Jews during his trip to Paris earlier this month, simply by quoting the Talmud, says an Israeli priest.

Jesuit Father David Mark Neuhaus, the secretary-general of the Hebrew-speaking Catholic Vicariate in Israel, known also as the Association of St. James, explained this in an article posted on the Web site of the Hebrew-speaking Catholic Vicariate in Israel. Father Neuhaus also serves as the priest in charge of the Hebrew-speaking Catholic community in Haifa.

"We have become used to the friendly tone of papal statements and greetings of different Jewish communities as the Popes since the Second Vatican Council travel around the world," he said. "It should perhaps be pointed out though that in the recent meeting with the representatives of the Jewish community in France, the Holy Father worked another subtle revolution."

In the context on commenting on the importance of the Sabbath, the Pope said: "Does not the Talmud Yoma (85b) state: 'The Sabbath has been given to you, but you have not been given to the Sabbath?'"Father Neuhaus explained that the Church in France has a history of censoring the Talmud, the body of Jewish civil and ceremonial law.

"In 1239, Pope Gregory IX sent out a letter to the monarchs in Europe ordering them to confiscate the volumes of the Talmud from the Jewish communities that lived in their lands," the Jesuit wrote. "Accusations had been made that the Talmud contained blasphemies against Christian belief and constituted an obstacle to Jewish conversion to Christianity.

"Little action was taken by the European monarchs outside of France, although in many places censorship of the Talmud was imposed. In France, as a result of the Pope's letter condemning the Talmud, the first public disputation was staged between Jews and Christians between June 25 and 27, 1240, in Paris. Two years later, in June 1242, 24 wagonloads of books, including many precious handwritten volumes of the Talmud, were burnt.

"The French King, Louis IX, ordered further confiscations in 1247 and 1248 and future monarchs in France upheld the principle. A further book burning was held in Toulouse in 1319." The Jesuit asked, "Is it not then a subtle revolution that to the Holy Father not only warmly greets the Jewish community in Paris, but that he also quotes the same Babylonian Talmud? Is it not significant too that he quotes from a Talmudic teaching that resonates deeply with the teaching of Jesus of Nazareth?"

Holocaust denier arrested

October 2, 2008

The Age

AUSTRALIAN Holocaust revisionist Gerald Fredrick Toben has been arrested at London's Heathrow airport.

British police executed a European Union arrest warrant issued by German authorities at Heathrow late last night Melbourne time.

The arrest warrant accuses 64-year-old Toben of publishing material on the internet "of an anti-Semitic and/or revisionist nature" in Australia, Germany and other countries.

The alleged Holocaust denier was to appear later at the City of Westminster Magistrates Court.

Toben, a former teacher in Victoria, has been involved in lengthy court proceedings in Australia for allegedly denying the Holocaust, and was jailed in Germany in 1999.
